Wire Flame Spray Gun
The wire flame spray gun is simple and starts by pushing the metalizing wire through the gun, igniting the fuel gas, and activating the quick-action wire grip to feed the wire into the flame. It stops by simply pushing the wire grip control. The unique siphon plug and universal gas head design allow the wire flame spray to produce high spray rates with minimal gas consumption. The design is also very resistant to backfire. The gun is supplied with standard drive rolls and gears, which are suitable for use with “hard” wires. The wire flame spray gun, configured to spray soft wires, come equipped with a special non-load air cap as well as a high-speed turbine shaft and countershaft gears. Wire flame spray is factory-configured for acetylene as the fuel gas as well as the gun is configured for use with propane fuel gases. However, using optional hardware, the universal gas head design can be adapted to use other fuel gases, such as acetylene, hydrogen, propane, natural gas. The wire flame spray gun is equipped to use 3.175 mm (1/8 in) diameter wires. Using optional hardware, the gun can be designed to feed all standard wire diameters, from as small as 0.813 mm (20 gauge) up to 4.76 mm (3/16 in). These guns should always be used with Metco gas and air control equipment. We offer a large portfolio of wire materials optimized for the combustion wire spray process. The use of these materials will provide the best results.
With the combustion wire spray process, the wire spray material is melted in a gaseous oxygen-fuel flame. The wire is fed continuously into the fuel gas-oxygen flame, where it is melted and atomized by the addition of compressed air that also directs the melted material onto the substrate. Combustion wire spray is a common choice for machine element repair and corrosion coatings. It’s possible to choose between hard (higher melt temperature) or soft (lower melt temperature) wires.
